About Me |
I am a fun-loving energetic guy who found his way onto the TIG team rather serendipitously. I have a dual passion for both youth education and global issues, and am excited to be interning as the Global Encounters Educational Animator at TIG.
I have long considered entering the teaching profession, but since I finished my undergrad my focus has moved towards global issues. As I near the completion of my Master's my passion for teaching has not subsided. My dream is to work with students in international contexts, working to bridge cultural divides to meet head-on global challenges that transcend the barriers of ethnicity and class.
On a more light-hearted note, I like long walks through the forest, sunsets on top of mountains, and hiking in the rain... in fact I love just about anything done outdoors. I have recently regained my passion for running and hope to complete a half-marathon in October 2011.
Currently, I am finishing my Master's in the wonderful city of Guelph where I am taking International Development and History. My research focuses on the Colonial history of the Kenyan education system. More specifically I am looking at the development of the Kikuyu Independent Schools Movement. The stories behind the creation and fall of this movement are (in my opinion at least) fascinating. Ask me about my research sometime if you get a chance.
I have had the privilege to visit Kenya on two occasions and miss my "second mother" dearly, who was convinced that Canadians have absolutely no appetites. In relative terms, she may have had a point: her 8 year-old daughter ate me under the table every night.
I look forward to becoming more engaged in the TIG community and hope we chat soon. There is nothing better than passionate people sharing crazy ideas and then coming together to put them into action.
