About Me |
I am absolutely thrilled to have joined the TakingITGlobal team as Education Program Manager in the fall of 2008.
My desire to pursue a career in the global education field was born when I took my first international studies class at university and wondered why global issues weren't better addressed in primary and secondary education. It seemed to me that the education system did not adequately introduce young Canadians to other people and places, or teach them how to work together to build a better world. I feel very strongly about the need to foster global citizenship and cooperation from an early age. It is an amazing experience to be part of a passionate group of people who are committed to helping young people get informed, inspired and involved in making a better future for all of us.
In case you are interested in learning a little more about me, here's the scoop!
I was born and raised in the small city of Prince George, which is situated in the middle of the province of British Colombia. It was a great place to grow up, with nearby nature getaways and a strong sense of community. I did my BA (International Studies) at the University of Northern British Columbia, a beautiful campus and inspiring learning environment. In 2004, I packed my bags and headed to Ottawa to pursue a MA in International Affairs. Shorlty after graduation, I joined the Association for Progressive Communications as an intern for the Information Technology for Environmental Sustainability initiative (now renamed GreeningIT). After my internship, I became an APC staff member, working as Executive Assistant and Grants Manager.
I love spending time with family and friends, music, dancing, reading, playing squash, running, and yoga. I'm also trying to meditate more often and more intensely. I love learning and meeting new people.
In peace,
Kat
